This ceramic pizza stone is perfect for creating the flavour of an Italian pizza in your own oven or bbq!
A pizza stone will produce very similar results to cooking pizza in a masonry oven, as the porous nature of the stone draws away moisture from the base to produce crispy results, without drying out the topping. Its special construction also distributes heat evenly across the entire pizza to maintain an even baking temperature. Great to use with homemade pizza dough or to give ready made crusts that pizza parlour crunch. For a fresh dough base, heat the pizza stone in the oven while rolling out the dough and adding the toppings. Place the raw pizza base onto a baking sheet, pizza paddle or a sheet of baking paper. Whatever option you use, ensure it has been dusted generously with flour. The flour will ensure the pizza base doesn't stick, so you can gently slide the prepared pizza onto the warmed stone. It is very important to also generously dust the warmed stone with flour. You can also prepare your pizza directly on the heated pizza stone. Simply remove the warm stone from the oven and place it on a heat proof surface. Sprinkle with flour and place the rolled out dough onto the pizza stone then add the toppings. Avoid using a lot of pressure when cutting pizza directly on the stone, as it may permanently damage the surface. Pizza stones require minimal maintenance and they're not going to stay clean for a long time, as much loved stones will become discoloured. Allow the stone to cool, dust or scrape off any toppings, clean as per the care instructions and store for the next use. Pizza stones can also be used for other raw bread dough, such as focaccia, Turkish bread loaves or scones.
